Dave, you are a great guy and seriously interesting teacher. Inspired by his back ground in life and where he came from to be an English teacher... so much respect for him as a teacher!
I hated english! Always!! But Mr Thorp was by far the best english teacher imaginable. Both got me actually doing something and made english bearable.
Best english teacher I ever had. Bloodt funny guy too.
Thorp is a legend.
Best english teacher I had and an extremely funny form teacher.
I can't think of any sufficiently figurative language which would describe how much of a legend Thorpedo is. Without him the Coll Hub '05 (school paper) would not have been possible. Thorpedo opened my eyes to poetry through Baxter.
Fantastic teacher - helped me get through 7th form english well after Mabyn left, many great stories and friendly ribbing - doesn't like people from the Hutt apparently hahaha.
Brilliant teacher who enspired many with down to earth attitude didnt try to turn the class into a chore as certain other teachers at the school did. Good to hear the school has held onto him
was my year 9 form teacher.. loved every minute! hes so funny and great! thanx heaps oh and hes full of life stories.. like when he burnt down that bridge oops
He's a great guy. Really funny and also manages to teach well.
No doubt one of the best teachers I've had. Single handedly improved my grades and makes his classes unmissable with his humour and anicdotes. Legend.
Got me reading. A miracle. Great stories and a brilliant English teacher.
Thorp is one of the best teachers at this school. He is blunt in his approach and it works marveously in a boys school environment. He always gives an inch to his classes, yet he commands enough respect so that they dare not take a mile.
I can't wait for Thorpey to come back (although word has it it was because he wasn't as tough as he thought he was and couldn't handle the Poms) This man was made for a boys school like Wellington College
If ever you're feeling loney, he's always there to reccommend a bit of "one-handed reading" to you.
This guy was the only good English teacher I had while at Wellington College. Very down to earth and honest.
rough as guts but an absolute champ. a unique approach that goes down a treat especially with the older classes. you either love him or hate him. i love him like i love christmas.
Thorp, currently away for a couple of months is being sorely missed. He deservedly is the newly appointed head of department. Congrats and we can't wait for his return.
